Goal
Create rebranded designs across the patient portal digital experience utilizing the B.UI Design System. Designs include the portal responsive website and the My Optum iOS and Android apps.

Process
As UX Designers on the Patient Portal team, we redesigned all portal pages in line with new brand and design system guidelines. Our role involved extensive collaboration across organization to align stakeholders and foster partnerships with all digital teams. We executed a successful rebrand and coordinated a phased strategy for web and native apps, maintaining consistency across platforms. Here are some specific actions taken:

  • Coordinated a phased strategy for web deliverables, aligning with product team roadmaps and ensuring smooth implementation of design standards.

  • Guided a team of designers to achieve consistency across platforms for each feature. Created a collaborative space for direct comparison of screens, tracking completed work, and partnering with A11Y, Content Strategist, and B.UI team to adhere to established standards and guidelines.

  • Led successful collaboration by setting up a weekly touch base with the B.UI Design System team to ensure the patient portal was using the new component library in Figma. Worked with various B.UI team members to define new components based on unique patient portal product needs.

  • Worked with the Data viz team to ensure Lab results and Vitals complied with established and accessible data viz standards. Showcased final implementations to the broader UX team during dedicated Data Viz office hours.

  • Collaborated with leadership and key stakeholders to ensure adherence to new brand standards; wordmark, color, data visualization typography, iconography, illustration, photography, tone and voice.

  • Presented final rebrand work to the product team for development implementation. Led a working session with the development team to teach them how to collaborate with UX in Figma and use the Figma files for referencing CSS, accessing B.Ui components, and exporting visual assets.
